Label Glossary

A destructible label is designed to be extremely difficult to remove. A one piece removal is not possible and instead the material breaks apart in very small pieces. It is used to deter defacement of the label in areas where people are inclined to try to remove the label.

Adomed labelis a self-adhesive label to which a layer of liquid resin is applied to. The liquid resin forms and hardens to the label providing a doming effect and 3D appearance.

EverGlow®is a photo-luminescent safety guidance system which offers a non-electrical solution for illuminating escape routes and emergency exits. It absorbs ambient light and immediately glows in the dark when regular lighting fails.

Commonly used in hospitals, schools, factories, offices, public transport and aircraft to name a few, it offers a more cost effective alternative to traditional electric powered signs.

A flap-laminate label is made up of a self-adhesive material with a clear self-laminate flap attached to the base material. It allows the user to write on the base material and then seal it with the clear laminate flap. This creates a protective seal against liquids, weathering and solvents.

Amembrane switchis a keypad or keyboard which creates a man/machine interface with your end product. It comprises of an overlay with a printed circuit underneath. Once the keypad is pressed it sends a signal through the printed circuit underneath which is then registered by the product.

Similar to RFID,NFC(Near Field Communication) engages over a wireless link but over a shorter distance and is used to transfer single points of data at a time. Primarily targeted at the consumer level, NFC is now common in modern smart phones and can be used for contactless payment and device automation functions.

RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) is a technology for identifying components using radio frequency waves through the use of a smart tag and accompanying reader.

The benefit of the system is that it does not require a line of sight such as barcodes and the reader can detect multiple RFID tags in a single pass over an extended range.

Tamper evident labels are designed to leave behind evidence of a label after the label stock has been removed. Commonly a VOID marking will be left behind after the label has been removed.

The backing liner of the label is slit or split, this makes it easier to remove the label from the liner.

Embossing is a process in which a machine is used to give a label a raised surface. This is commonly used for buttons or on the outside trim of the label.

An over laminate is a clear material that is placed over the surface of the label to provide protection against harsh environments. The laminate helps preserve the label and offers additional durability.

Digital printingis a modern method of printing using laser & jet printing. Designs are sent to the digital printer using any PDF type software. Digital printing allows you to print multiple colours that would be difficult to print using other machines, with a fast turnaround.

Flexographic printing or Flexo Printing is a process where a flexible relief plate, applied to a cylinder, is used to transfer ink onto a substrate.

Screen printingis a printing process where ink is passed onto a substrate through a woven mesh which supports a blocking stencil.

Thermal Transfer Printingis a printing process which melts a coating of a ribbon onto the substrate.
